Virtual Machine Data Recovery

We have developed exclusive technologies for Linux and Windows VM recovery.

Virtual machines are a great ally for companies that want to expand their capacity to manage multiple operating systems, but have limited physical space. When coupled with a RAID system it becomes a highly productive tool.

VMs have the potential to transform a single physical server into multiple virtual servers, making them essential.

This productivity has caught the attention of hacker groups, who have developed ransomware specializing in encrypting virtual machines and all their files.

Data is the backbone of any business, so it needs to be available and easily accessible at all times. Given this, data loss can be the downfall of a company.

There are a number of issues that can lead to data loss in Virtual Machines, they are:

  • Deletion of data
  • Formatting partitions
  • Corruption of information
  • Overwriting information
  • Formatting followed by reinstallation of systems
  • Hardware malfunction
  • Simultaneous failure of hard drives in Storages

Digital Recovery has positioned itself in the data recovery market to provide solutions for virtual machine recovery in any of these scenarios.

Why Digital Recovery?

We have over 25 years of experience, our focus is centered on data recovery for businesses.

We have developed our own proprietary technologies, including Tracer, with which we have achieved good results in virtual machine recovery in virtually all cases of data loss.

Our solutions were developed based on the General Law of Data Protection (GDPR) to follow all government regulations and ensure total security for our customers.

Besides having the confidentiality agreement (NDA) available to our clients, all information about the processes is highly confidential and will only be available to the client himself.

Answers from our experts

Can a snapshot replace a backup?

Absolutely not, the snapshot is not a backup! We have attended many cases where the customer believed this, so it is valid to make clear what the snapshot actually is.

The snapshot is a kind of freezing of the virtual machine matrix and the creation of a new virtual machine, which will be tied to the matrix, but without using it. The new data is recorded without consuming the space and performance of the matrix virtual machine.

In these terms the snapshot may look like a backup, but in no scenario can it be used as such. It is recommended that a backup of the data is always available.

Are there any recommendations for the use of Snapshots?

Yes, there are some best practices that need to be taken into account, they are:

  • Use Snapshot for maximum 72 hours, after that it is recommended that the data is consolidated on the parent virtual machine.
  • The Snapshot should not be too big, its size influences the time of the data consolidation process.
  • Do not have more than three Snapshots.
