REMOTE DATA RECOVERY

Recover files RAID 5
Data recovery on RAID 5 demands in-depth knowledge of system parity. Over many years we have accumulated the necessary knowledge to recover RAID 5 in any data loss scenario. Over many years we have accumulated the necessary knowledge to recover RAID 5 in any scenario of data loss.
RAID 5 is the evolution of previous RAID systems (RAID’s 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4), it combines the security of RAID 1 with RAID 0 performance, this makes the RAID 5 is one of the most used levels worldwide.
Although the RAID system is extremely safe, especially when we talk about RAID 5, it is not immune to failures that can cause data loss. In such cases, data recovery on RAID 5 will need to be done by a company that specialises in RAID 5 recovery.
There are numerous problems that can cause data loss on RAID 5, such as configuration problems, logical problems and physical problems. Each of these can cause total or partial downtime.
The most recurrent configuration problems are: Deletion or change in RAID controller settings, deletion or change of array volumes, loss of sequential order of disks.
Most common logical problems are: Deletion or corruption of data on partitions, formatting drives or partitions, overwriting information, problems booting the system, and others.
The most common physical problems are: RAID controller burnout, electronic circuitry burnout, read head burnout or breakage, disk surface damage, natural media wear, motor burnout, firmware issues, among many others.
In all these cases our specialists have acted with certain frequency, we specialize in cases of disaster recovery, the entry of RAID 5 is recurrent in our laboratory, this has developed in us an advanced knowledge about RAID 5. Today, surely, we have the expertise in data recovery on RAID 5.

"They helped me recover some data that I had thought was lost. I had a great experience with the team for their calmness, agility and transparency."
Answers from our experts
What are the main reasons that cause data loss on RAID 5?
The main problems that lead to data loss in RAID 5 are:
Configuration Problems:
- Loss of Array data;
- Deletion or Change in RAID controller settings;
- Exclusion or change of Array volumes;
- Loss of the sequential order of the disks;
- Logical Problems:
- Deletion or corruption of data on partitions;
- Formatting drives or partitions;
- Overwriting information;
- Formatting followed by reinstallation of systems;
- Problems booting the system;
- Dissynchronization of data from one hard drive to another.
Physical Problems:
- Burning or problems occurring in the RAID controller;
- Burnout of electronic circuits;
- Burnout of read heads;
- Breakage of read heads;
- Damage to the surface of the disks (HDD platters):
- Bad Blocks – Defective Sectors;
- Natural wear of the media;
- Scratches and scratches surface;
- Scratches and scratches serious;
- Locked motor bearings;
- Motor burnout;
- Problems caused by falls or impacts;
- Problems related to the Servo Mechanism area;
- Firmware problems;
- Problems with water or other liquids.
Are there any specific recommendations for servers and storage in RAID 5?
Usually when problems occur with a RAID server, a long time may have passed when the server was configured and rarely remember the details of the configurations used.
If the system type is RAID 5 (with redundant disks) and a problem occurred in only one of the disks, you can try to replace the disk with problems and perform Rebuild (procedure for reconstruction of data from the damaged disk).
To do this, contact our team of specialists. However, before performing the Rebuild procedure, it is necessary to be absolutely sure that the Array has not suffered any type of change, that is, the controller data and the order of the physical disks have not been modified. Otherwise there will be data overlapping.
How does RAID 5 parity work?
- All the information in the first block of disks 1, 2 and 3 will be stored in the first block of disk 4;
- In the second block, the information of disks 2, 3 and 4 will be stored in disk 1;
- In the third block, the information of discs 3, 4 and 1 will be stored in disc 2;
- In the fourth block, the information of disks 4, 1 and 2 will be stored in disk 3;
- In the fifth block of RAID 5 the whole cycle begins again.

What you need to know
How much space is available on a server or storage with RAID 5?
Regardless of the number of disks that will be allocated in the array, the system will use the space equivalent to one disk for parity, ie to get the net space, just multiply the capacity of the disks by the number of disks subtracting one.
Example | Considering 5 disks of 3 TB each, totaling 15 TB of raw space.
Subtracting one disk we have a total of 4 disks of 3 TB, ie, 3 TB x 4 = 12 TB
How to recover RAID 5?
A RAID 5 with 4 HDDs or SSDs can have over 1000 different combinations of data access. If these combinations are modified or lost, data loss will inevitably occur.
If any attempt to rebuild the data through the REBUILD process is made with an Array other than the original, overwriting will occur.
If this has already happened, we recommend to stop everything and contact our technical support. It is still possible to recover RAID 5 through specially written algorithms to rebuild the overlapped areas through data stored in the regions intended for parity (redundancy) of the RAID Array.
Is it possible to recover RAID 5 data remotely?
Yes, in many situations it is possible to recover data from a RAID server or storage remotely. For more information about this recovery modality, please contact us through our support channels, which are available 24x7x365.
