The Vice Society ransomware attacks led to an update to the Windows print spooler code. The port the group used for their attacks was known as “PrintNightmare” the Windows update aimed to close this port.
This flaw was in the printing system, after failing to execute the Spooler the hackers could access the operating system which granted them the same privileges as a regular user, giving them full access to the system.
The Vice Society ransomware targets flaws in the Windows operating system, and stops at attacking only small to medium sized companies.
This group, similar to the Hive Leaks group, carries out the attack in two phases, the first removing sensitive files for future leakage and then encrypting the data. The group has a website where they post the stolen files, such leaks directly affect the company under the Data Security Act.
The programming of the Vice Society makes it search for the backups tied to the system, this is done so that there is no possibility of restoring the files without paying the ransom. This shows the importance of having constant backup routines, but with offline copies, because even if the ransomware reaches all the company’s data, there will be a safeguard. The best backup format is what we call 3x2x1 (3 copies, 2 online, 1 offline).
This group is new, but has already managed to develop highly sophisticated ransomware that is fast in encryption time.
Recover data encrypted by ransomware Vice Society
Encrypted data recovery has become our specialty, today we are able to recover ransomware of virtually any length. This is because we have developed a technology we call Tracer, which enables us to recover data on any storage device
In cases of encryption we can recover the affected data after a deep analysis of the hard disk and reconstruction of the data, without the need for the decryption key.
We have seen cases in which all the company’s backups were encrypted or altered by the attack. Even in this scenario, we were able to recover the files and thus restore the company’s operations.
Throughout the process, the client will be in direct contact with our specialists who, through constant feedbacks, will make the client aware of all the processes adopted to recover the data.
After the recovery, the client will be able to validate if all the files were recovered and if they are all available.
If it is not possible to send the device to our lab, we can do the recovery remotely. Validate this possibility with our specialists.
All our services are confidential, and to ensure this, we have signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA).
Our processes are customized to meet the real needs of each client.
