HD data recovery
We specialise in recovering hard drives. Our solutions apply when, for whatever reason, the files cannot be accessed by the user. There are many reasons why hard drive data is lost, ranging from simple knocks and bumps to ransomware attacks.
All handling of the hard drive that has suffered data loss is carried out in a Class 100 Clean Room, to ensure total safety that the device will not be damaged by particles and dust in the air.
One of the biggest problems we face when recovering data from a hard drive is mishandling by the user or even by other data recovery companies. The magnetic platter on which the data is recorded is extremely sensitive, so much so that any touch to its surface can cause permanent data loss.
To prevent this from happening, it is important to keep the hard drive isolated as soon as data loss is identified, and send it directly to one of our laboratories.
HD data loss can be categorised into 2 groups: logical damage and physical damage. Logical problems only affect the data, i.e. the hardware will continue to function normally, but for some reason the information will not be accessible.
Physical problems affect the hardware that contains the data, i.e. it may be that all the files are intact inside the hard drive, but the hardware that reads the data is unable to read or copy the data for some reason. There may also be situations in which data is lost due to physical and logical damage at the same time.
In all these scenarios, recovering data from the hard drive is possible, but only if it is done by a company specialising in data recovery, such as Digital Recovery, which has a specialised technical team and state-of-the-art equipment.
Why Digital Recovery?
For more than 24 years we have been working in the data recovery market. For many years our main focus has been to develop technologies capable of recovering hard drives. That target has been achieved, and today we can recover hard drive data for the most diverse reasons that led to the loss of data.
We have the best specialists in the field and the best equipment and technology, which has considerably increased our HD recovery rates.
We act with precision and speed from the moment we first contact our clients, offering an initial diagnosis within 24 working hours, which allows us to measure the chances of recovering the data, the time required and the cost of the process. Before starting the HD recovery process, the client has access to this information so that they can decide whether or not to proceed with data recovery.
In some cases of data loss for logical reasons, we can perform our solutions remotely, which removes the need to send the hard drive to our laboratory, which greatly reduces the time it takes to recover the data on the hard drive. In cases of data loss due to physical damage, the hard drive will need to be sent to us so that we can analyse the body of the hard drive and recover the data.
All of our solutions have been developed on the basis of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) so that we can offer greater security to our clients, as well as providing a confidentiality agreement (NDA) which guarantees that all recovered data will be kept confidential and will only be made available to the client.
Once the process is complete, the client can have the recovered files checked by one of our experts to verify the integrity of the data.
In the event of an emergency, we have set up emergency recovery mode. When this mode is activated, our laboratories are available 24×7, so that the data on the hard drive can be recovered as quickly as possible.

Answers from our experts
What are the main causes of hard drive data loss?
- Deleting partitions;
- Formatting;
- Formatting followed by reinstallation;
- Deleting files;
- Corruption of file systems (FAT, NTFS, Ext2 etc);
- Viruses or similar programmes (Ransomware);
- PCB (Printed Circuit Board) burnout;
- Breakage of the data reading circuit;
- Reading errors caused by Bad Blocks;
- Misalignment of the reading system in relation to the hard drive platters;
- Problems related to natural wear and tear of parts, manufacturing defects,
- overheating or mishandling during transport and packaging.
What is Digital Recovery's HD data recovery success rate?
There are many lies about data recovery. Companies that advertise recovery rates of well over 90 per cent may be using unfounded or altered data in their research.
If the discs (platters) of a media are scratched by a head/write head, the job of recovering the data will be very difficult and sometimes impossible.
In our research sources with over 23 years’ experience, the percentage of cases in which data can be recovered is approximately 80 per cent. Don’t believe in miracle machines or exceptional techniques, because they don’t really exist.
Wrong attempts at data recovery procedures by non-specialised people and companies account for almost half of the unsolved cases on the market.
How much does it cost to recover a hard drive?
It very much depends on the situation that caused the data loss. For this reason, only after the initial diagnosis can we plan the cost of recovery.
With the information gathered from the initial diagnosis and the budget established, we send the client a commercial proposal. Data recovery only begins once the commercial proposal has been accepted.

How to repair a hard drives ?
Repairing the hard drive is possible, but not recommended. No repair will leave the hard drive in perfect condition, so it is not safe for data to be stored on it.
Even manufacturers, when they receive damaged hard drives for replacement under the factory warranty, won’t repair them, they’ll just send you a new hard drive.
The best thing to do is to recover the data and migrate it to a new hard drive. The cost may be higher, but the guarantee and security are incomparably greater.
What types of hard drives are used?
Every computer uses data storage technology to store files, photos, videos and other data in its memory, the most common of which is the hard drive, whether internal or external.
One of the main attributes of a hard drive is to store the operating system that builds the entire user experience, the main ones being Windows, macOS and Linux. The main types of hard drives are
Desktop hard drive – The desktop hard drive is the most common, among the other models it is the most protected against drops and impacts due to the computer’s CPU. Generally, data loss on desktop hard drives is due to deleted files, formatted operating systems, ransomware attacks and data corruption.
Notebook hard drive – Notebook hard drives are smaller than desktop hard drives, but they work in the same way. And because the notebook is portable, the hard drive tends to suffer a lot from knocks that can shorten its useful life and cause data loss.
External Hard Drive – The External Hard Drive, like most hard drives, is extremely sensitive due to the disc on which the data is recorded. Because it is the most “portable” of all hard drives, it is more prone to data loss due to drops and external impacts that damage the hard drive.
What is the HD data recovery process like?
The process begins with an initial diagnosis that shows us the extent of the data loss and the chances of recovering it. Then, with the client’s authorisation, we proceed to recover the hard drive.
If it is a physical problem that has caused the data loss, we open the hard drives in a specially designed Class 100 Clean Room and remove the hard drive and recover the data contained on it.
In the case of logical problems, our exclusive software is controlled by our experts to perform the recovery.
These processes may seem simple to you, but believe me, they’re not. All these processes are delicate and require highly trained specialists with the most advanced software.
