HiveLeaks Ransomware

A series of attacks by the HiveLeaks ransomware has garnered attention around the world, the FBI has issued a flash alert on attacks by this group.

This extension is relatively new, their first appearance was in June 2021, they made a successful attack on Altus Group, a commercial real estate software development company, the amount requested for the ransom was not disclosed.

Unlike other ransomware groups such as BlackMatter, which avoids attacking hospitals, critical infrastructure facilities (nuclear power plants, power plants, water treatment facilities), oil and gas industry (pipelines, oil refineries), defence industry, non-profit companies and government sectors.

The HiveLeaks ransomware does not avoid such sectors, the group does not distinguish between targets, it showed this by attacking hospital software that paralysed the operation of a hospital in Ohio, which directed its patients to other hospitals.

The most worrying thing about the HiveLeaks ransomware attacks is the tactics implemented by the group, it acts in two stages, after the invasion it removes the main data and then applies encryption on the remaining files. The removed files are used as a weapon to pressure the company, being leaked on the Dark Web. Altus Group’s data was leaked.

This type of leak is extremely damaging to the company, trade secrets can be leaked and not only that, sensitive customer information can be leaked causing legal problems for companies. This is one of the main reasons why many companies choose to pay the ransom.

While this is seemingly the only way out, ransom payment or data loss and legal issues, these are not the only viable options, there is another avenue, recovery of data encrypted by ransomware.

Recovery of data encrypted by HiveLeaks ransomware

Digital Recovery has been able to create unique technologies that are capable of recovering ransomware encrypted data of any length, without the need for a decryption key. This ability to develop proprietary technologies has put us ahead of other data recovery companies.

This technology is so innovative that there is still the idea that there is no possibility of recovering encrypted data, but that barrier was overcome a few years ago

All our processes are in accordance with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and to bring more security to the whole process we count on the confidentiality agreement (NDA).

From the first contact until the end of the process, there will be the accompaniment of one of our specialists. All of this is to ensure the client’s safety and trust in our processes.

If sending the media is not feasible, as in the case of servers, we can perform the recovery remotely. This entire process is performed in a totally secure virtual environment, and after the process the client can validate the integrity of the recovered files.

If you have been the victim of a ransomware attack, you can count on Digital Recovery to recover your data.
